'Witcher' Is Being Made Into A Netflix Original Series
Said to rival Game of Thrones, Netflix are creating a series for the book and video game franchise Witcher.
Originally a series of eight novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, Witcher was adapted into a video game for PC, Playstation and Xbox by CD Projekt Red RPG games.
Sapkowski never made any money from the game adaptations but is expected to be a creative consultant for the show being made by Netflix. He said:
“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories.
Staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.“
The man who directed the Witcher game trilogy intros, Tomas Baginski, is thought to be directing one episode per series. This implies that Netflix are looking to create more than one season of Witcher.
Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, executive producers said:
“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world.
The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.“
It’s not known whether the series will follow the books, the games, neither or a mixture but since Netflix are so good at making this kind of thing, it’s fairly safe to say that it’s going to be a good one.
The Polish production and visual effects company, Platige Image, will be co-producing Witcher, just so they can maintain the high standard that we’ve all come accustomed to. Executive producers, Baginski and Jarek Sawko, said:
“There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover.
It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts.”
Thus far there’s no news on when we can expect to watch it or even what actors will be in it.
This should be fun…
