British actor Charlie Heaton, who stars in the hit Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’ has allegedly been detained by US border officials at Los Angeles International Airport after traces of cocaine were found on his clothing.

The 23-year-old who plays Jonathon Byers on the show, and has previously starred in Casualty and Vera, was denied entry to the United States of America earlier this week after traces of the stimulant were found on him. Law enforcement officials confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they found traces of cocaine on Heaton, and that the actor admitted to consuming drugs.

Heaton, a British citizen, was detained at LAX in Thursday and so missed the Westwood premiere of Stranger Things‘ second season, which has now been released in full onto Netflix – but we know you’ve probably already started watching it.

Heaton’s rep has not yet responded to requests from press for a statement.

He rose to fame in the show playing Jonathon, missing kid Will’s older brother (the one who went around taking creepy stalker-ish photos). Stranger Things turned out to be an incredible success, racking up a whopping 18 Emmy nominations – taking it’s young stars along with it.

It was recently revealed that the young cast of Stranger Things kids, who are all predominantly around 13 years old, were each paid $30,000 (£22,785) per episode for seasons 1 and 2 – plus a large bonus after the knockout success of the first season. The stars are allegedly planning to ask for more money for the third and future seasons.

And if you’re worried Heaton’s detainment might have any effect at all on the future of the show, if the rumours are true – show makers have already filmed the entirety of the third and fourth seasons (because they were concerned about their young stars having unhelpful growth spurts), so the future of the show remains steady.

Here’s the trailer for Stranger Things 2, just in case you haven’t seen it yet:
