People Think This Cryptic 'Stranger Things' Tweet Means That Pennywise Is In Season 2

Just when you thought that 2017 couldn’t get any more terrifying, fans think that Pennywise might be making an appearance on the new season of ‘Stranger Things’.

(They did promise that it was going to be dark…)

Yesterday, the official Stranger Things Twitter account posted this:

A totally blank image, with what looks like a little rip or tear in the top right hand corner.

Naturally, it confused a lot of people:

Some sleuths, however, thought that the mysterious image might be a cryptic clue. As one pointed out, it bore a certain resemblance to the DVD cover of the 1990 miniseries adaptation of IT.

It also has an (albeit much larger) rip in the top right hand corner…

Maybe it’s a hint that we’ll be seeing Pennywise in season two of Stranger Things?

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the Duffer brothers will have somehow included an homage to the infamous child-eating clown. The first season of Stranger Things was strewn with 80’s pop culture references, and we have no reason to believe that the second will be any different.

I mean, just check out these Halloween costumes…

The timeline might be a little off – the IT novel was published in 1986, which is actually two years ahead of where Stranger Things season two picks up (the autumn of 1984) – but then who knows – maybe there’s going to be a time jump…

It could also be that they’re planning a Stranger Things / IT crossover, and that we’ll actually be seeing the real life Pennywise terrorise Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin (he’d be no match for Eleven).

It’d certainly make a lot of horror fans happy, but logistically, we’re not sure how they’d pull it off…

All episodes of Stranger Things season two are now available to watch on Netflix, and you can check out the trailer here:

Now, who’s going to spend all weekend watching? Let us know in the comments!
