'The Conjuring' Is Getting Two Terrifying Spin-Off Movies Later This Year
For those of you who aren’t aware, the makers of ‘The Conjuring’ are already planning to expand upon their universe with more additions to the franchise.
A couple of years ago, we were granted a peak into that expansion with Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation, but one of these upcoming spin-offs is set to be one of the most horrifying yet, especially as it’ll be based on that creepy ghost nun.
So, for all you who watched (and loved) The Conjuring 2, this is definitely some good news. The creepy nun from the second film, who played a major character throughout the plot, will be getting a spin-off film based solely on her story and everything about her origin.
The film itself was announced last year, but we’ve only just got an update on it’s release date – which, unfortunately, will be pushed back quite a bit.
Before we get into those details, however, here’s a bit of info on the plot itself. According to Variety:
“The story centres on a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania taking her own life, with a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret and confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun from The Conjuring 2.”
Whilst The Nun was initially slated for a July release this year, that has now been pushed back to September, to the disappointment of most fans.
One thing that should provide some uplift is the fact that The Nun will most likely be getting a sequel – and that won’t be all. There will also be another spin-off called The Crooked Man, which already sounds like it’ll be quite a thrill.
According to the film’s producer, James Wan, The Conjuring universe will only get bigger and much scarier from here onwards. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, he described The Nun as ‘The Name of the Rose crossed with The Conjuring, which sounds like a treat. The Name of the Rose was a (creepy AF) film in 80’s about a monk who investigates a murder in an isolated abbey, and even the thought of it crossing paths with The Conjuring sends shivers down our spines.
After The Nun will be The Crooked Man, The Conjuring 3 and The Nun 2, which Wan claims will tie back to Lorraine’s character in The Conjuring as well.
The Nun hits theatres on September 7th later this year.
